Journal Title: International Journal of the Excellence in Social Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
With the emphasis on the importance of socioscientific issues in recent years, it can be said that there has been an increase in research on these issues in Turkey. The aim of this study is to evaluate the Turkish articles on socioscientific issues published between 2013 and 2021 in Turkey. In line with this evaluation, it is aimed to present a holistic perspective in terms of certain characteristics of studies on socioscientific issues. The examination of the relevant articles was carried out with the document analysis method. A total of 65 articles were analyzed in terms of "the year of the research, the journal in which it was published, the purpose of the research, the research method, the design of the research, the sample of the research, the sample size and the data collection tools". According to the findings, it was determined that the most studies were carried out in 2020 and the least in 2013 and 2015. In these studies, it was aimed to determine attitudes, argumentation skills, views and tendencies toward socioscientific issues. As a research method, quantitative research was preferred the most whereas mixed-method research was preferred least. Majority of the studies were conducted with pre-service teachers and secondary school students. Among the data collection tools, scale, interview form and questionnaire were used the most; and descriptive analysis form, word association test, problem solving, and value inventory were used the least. It is thought that the results obtained from this study will be a source for future research on socioscientific issues and will provide important contributions in this direction.
