Abstract
The main aim of this study is, through the use of elements of the triple analysis of Hermeneutics of Thompson Depth (1995), to reflect on women’s representation in the 80s, shown in the fashion editorials of Elle magazine. It is intended to verify if the images published in the magazine can be considered a reflection of the society of that decade. In drawing up this text, we started from the theoretical discussion about female gender, women’s history, their behavior, female identity and its relationship with fashion and the gender of identification processes. After selecting pictures from the magazine, we discuss the relationship between social reality and the one presented by the magazine, showing how women were represented in women’s magazines of that time, especially with regard to encouraging women to enter the public space, gain prominence in the labor market and be recognized as a professional in order to seek their fulfillment.
