A Polarização da Luz e os Parâmetros de Stokes: Sua Importância na Caracterização de Materiais

Abstract
In this article, the significance of light polarization in the characterization of luminescent materials is addressed. The process of obtaining Stokes parameters from the electric field is detailed, as well as the techniques for measuring these parameters, exploring their relationship with the elements of the polarization ellipse. It also presents how to calculate the degree of polarization of light, the percentage of light polarized in different orientations (vertical or horizontal, linearly ±45°, circularly right or left), the anisotropy factor, the dissymmetry factor, and the circular dichroism, using the Stokes parameters. The emphasis of the article lies in the meticulous presentation of these deductions. Understanding the state of polarization is crucial for the accurate and effective characterization of materials.
