A PROMISING BIOACTIVE COMPONENT TERPINEN-4-OL: A REVIEW
Journal Title: International Journal of Pharmacognosy - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 8
Abstract
Since the middle ages, essential oils have been widely used for bactericidal, fungicidal, insecticidal, virucidal, cosmetic and medicinal applications, especially now a days in agriculture, food, sanitary and pharmaceutical industries. Distillation is the common mode of extraction used for aromatic plants, which results in a variety of volatile molecules such as terpenes, terpenoids, aliphatic components and phenol derived aromatic components. Extensive research has been done in the last decade to screen and evaluate the pharmaceutical potential of the phytochemical constituent, terpinen-4-ol. It is found in various plants species and has gained attention because of its antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. This monoterpene is a bioactive component of tea tree oil (TTO) present in plant belonging to the genus Melaleuca. In the present review, an overview of the current status and knowledge on the physicochemical properties, analytical techniques, formulations, pharmacological applications, irritation and toxicity potential of terpinen-4-ol have been discussed.

The present study was aimed to investigate the cytotoxic activity of different fractions (petroleum ether, ethyl acetate & chloroform) of the rhizome of Alpinia nigra – a plant belonging to the family Zingiberaceae. The...
ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY, PHENOLS AND FLAVONOID CONTENTS OF PLANT EXTRACTS
The extracts of two different plant were screened for their phenols, flavonoid and antioxidant activity by DPPH method for two locations. In this study seed oil and defatted seed cake extracts of M. azedarach and P. pinn...
MEDICINAL PLANTS SUPPORT THE AMYLIN-SUPPRESSED VIABILITY OF ISLET β-CELLS
The proliferation of β-cells is the main contributor to the mass cell maintenance in the pancreatic islets. In our earlier work the suppression of β-cell growth by aggregated peptide hormone of the pancreas, amylin, has...
REGULATION OF WNT GENES IN STEM CELLS DEVELOPMENT AND ORGANOGENESIS
Stem cell biology, many signals regulated stem cells and organ development. Wnt factors play a crucial role in stem cells development and induced signaling pathway in stem cells. Wnt signals classified as a canonical and...
