A prospective study of resistant cervical tuberculosis cases

Abstract

Background: The multi drug resistance is increasing now a days in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The incidence of mycobacterium lymphedenitis is also increasing worldwide. The aim of study was to analyze the epidemiology of resistant cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis, associated complications and surgical modalities used for treatment. Methods: The prospective study was done on patients with resistant cervical tuberculosis from January 2015 to December2017 in surgery department. Positive diagnosis of tuberculosis was considered from the histopathological and/or bacteriological report. Results: Out of total 30 cases studied, maximum cases were in the age group between 21- 40 years with female predominance. Conclusions: Most common group of lymphnode involved were jugulo digastric. Aspiration procedure was found to be incomplete procedure with high recurrence and excision biopsy most preferable procedure which prevents recurrence.
