A Quantitative Study on the School Performance Level of Camalig District and Its Status During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This study attempted to determine the school performance level of the two public elementary school districts in Camalig, Division of Albay. Specifically, the study answered problem on the status of school performance level of Camalig Districts for the SY. 2019-2020 and SY. 2020-2021 along access, quality and governance and its significant difference; and the practices, strategies and innovations implemented by the school to improve the school performance level during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following hypothesis were tested: There is no significant difference in the level of school performance of elementary schools in Camalig North and South District during the COVID-19 Pandemic; There is no significant difference between the programs and projects implemented to improve the school performance level during the COVID-19 pandemic; There is no significant difference in the extent of practices, strategies and innovations of the schools to the school performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. There were four (4) theories anchored in this study: Management leadership theory by Leithwood et.al (1999:14), Theory of Performance by Elger (2007), Participative theory of Lamb (2013), , and the theory of Motivation by Abraham Maslow and Frederick Herzberg. The descriptive -; survey method of research was used utilizing a questionnaire checklist through google form in data gathering. There were 21 school heads as respondents from the 33 public elementary schools in Camalig North and South District in the Division of Albay. The percentage, weighted mean and t-test were used as statistical tools. Findings revealed the following: Based on the school head responses 100% of them implemented the Distance Learning Modality with the provision of 1:1 pupil ratio for the modules/LAS, 71.42% conducted home visitation during the COVID-19 pandemic, 76.19% says to maintain the good rapport to parents, teachers and stakeholders, while transparency, resiliency, responsive and resourcefulness were 80.95%. and 90.47% answered constant follow-up to pupils reading ability and close monitoring of pupils and teachers' activities with regards to school activities these are the strategies and innovations they have practiced to maintain and improve the school performance despite the COVID-19 Pandemic. Based on the findings, the following conclusions were drawn; that in order to maintain the good performance of the school despite the COVID-19 pandemic they adapted the Distance Learning Modality as DepEd mandated, provided pupils the 1:1 ratio of modules/LAS in all learning areas, home visitation to track the progress of learners, being resourceful, transparent and responsive to the needs of the school, and maintain a good rapport and open communication to stakeholders to realize the Programs and Projects (PAPs). Based on the findings and in light with the conclusions, the researcher recommends the following: 1.) Regular school monitoring and supervision from the district supervisors for the sustainability of the strategies being practiced by the school head; 2.) Supervisor`s will provide technical assistance (TA) to those schools who are struggling when it comes to achieving a better school performance. 3.) School heads can benchmark to other performing schools the strategies and innovations that they may adapt on their station to achieve the school performance they wanted.
