A study of clinical features of breast lesions at tertiary health care centre

Abstract
Background: Breast symptoms are common occurrences in the female. Few symptoms are trivial, however, some symptoms especially the persistent become source of concern because of the possibility of occurrence of breast cancer. Aim: To study the clinical features and presentations of the breast lesions. Material and Methods: In this prospective study, all 52 patients, 51 females and one male patient, presenting with breast symptoms were included. A detailed history and clinical examination was done. Fine needle aspiration cytology and histopathology examination was done for final diagnosis. Results: The maximum number of benign lesions occurred in the 15-20 years age group. The maximum number of malignant lesions were common in the age group of 46-50 years. The commonest symptoms were, breast lump in 49 patients (94.2%) and breast pain in 22 patients (42.3%). Fibroadenoma was the commonest diagnosis. Conclusion: A breast lump was the commonest clinical feature of breast disease. Breast pain was commonest symptom in malignant diseases. Benign lesions accounted for majority of the cases. Among them fibroadenoma was the commonest lesion.
