A study of histopathological changes and risk factors associated with ectopic pregnancy in a rural tertiary care centre
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Pathology - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
Aim: A study was carried out to evaluate the histopathological changes in fallopian tube and assess the associated risk factor. Methodology: Our study included 112 cases of ectopic pregnancy. Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections were studied. Presence of ciliated cells and secretory cells were assessed. Histopathological evidence for associated risk factors were evaluated. Results: We observed the commonest risk factor was chronic salphingitis% followed by Salpingitis isthmica nodosa SIN%. 19% of cases had history of previous abdominal surgeries and 11% had history of sterilization. Deciliation of lining epithelial cells was present in 58 cases. Conclusion: Based on the findings we conclude that chronic salphingitis followed by Salpingitis isthmica nodosa (SIN) has strong association with ectopic pregnancy in our population.
