A study of necrotizing fasciitis with reference to mortality and its associated factors

Abstract
Background: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) or infections. Aims and Objectives: Methodology: Consecutive patients with ward of Govt. Medical Collage Hospital between June 2013 to June 2014 form the basis of this study The statistical analysis was done by Chi-square test and Odds Ratio (OR) was calculated by Graph pad pr common predisposing factors were Poor personalhygiene in 65.00% followed by Age more than 50 years in 58.33% followed by Diabetes mellitus disease- 11.67% and AIDS in 6.67%. Paraplegia in 1.67%, Carcinoma in 1.67% and Steroid use in 1.67%. Determinants of mortality N.S.T.I.s ; The percentage (Mortality Difference in % and P =4.32, df=1, p=0.03,OR=3.7 admission more than 5 days was 3.36, df=1, p=0.08,OR=2.67), Altered mental status on admiss of Systemic toxicity on admission 55.17% ( χ2 = 3.2, df=1, p=0.07,OR=3.3), Presence of Chronic Alcoholism Presence of Cardiovascular disease Cm2> 250 cm2- 69.57 (χ2 = 11.94, df=1, p=0.005,OR=7.11), Depth of infection Level 4 p=0.04,OR=3.79), Serum creatinine on admission nitrogen on admission > 50 mg / dl concluded from our study that the mos Age Above 50; Duration between onset mental status on admission, Presence of Systemic toxicity on ad Chronic Alcoholism, Presence of Cardiovascular disease, Extent of infection: Area (measured in Cm of infection Level 4, Serum creatinine on admission
