A Study On Mass In Abdomen In Right Iliac Fossa In Day To Day Surgical Practice At Government General Hospital, Warangal, Telengana

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Mass in the right iliac fossa is the commonest problem in day to day surgical practice. The origin of mass is either from intra abdominal or parietal. Appendicular mass is the commonest among them and followed by appendicular abscess. In poor socio-economic group, intestinal tuberculosis is seen more frequently. Increase of Caecal carcinoma is observed with advancement of age. Diagnosis of intra abdominal mass is done with thorough clinical examination, relevant investigations. METHODS: The present study is taken up in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, TS. The objective of the present study is to know the distribution of cases in relation to age, sex, type of occupation and the common mode of presentation of signs and symptoms. Materials and Methods: The present study is a descriptive study conducted at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, TS from January 2013 to August 2014. All the patients came with signs and symptoms of abdominal mass were included for the study during study period. A pre tested format was used for data collection. Patients with pathology of uterus and adenexa and the problems related to parietal origin were excluded for the study. The necessary investigations for evaluation of abdominal mass were done for study subjects. RESULTS: In the present study 56 cases of abdominal mass studied. Four out of five cases either belong to appendicular mass abscess. Intestinal tuberculosis was observed in low socio-economic groups. As age advances, proportionately Carcinoma caecum also increased. The incidence of lump in abdomen noticed more in labour population. CONCLUSION: Proper clinical examination with necessary preliminary investigations with the help of pathological support major segment of abdominal masses can be detected and early intervention can be done for better prognosis.
