Abstract
Many recent studies have focused on the word stress like an important element of the word or word-form. There are a lot of researchers, which demonstrates the action or facts of accentuating or of being accentuated. According to Edward Stankiewicz, "Accent is one of the most vexing problems in Slavic linguistics, and it has given rise to diverse schools of thought particularly in the area of historical reconstruction". There are a lot of systematic description of the accentual patterns of all the Slavic languages with mobile stress. Diachronic accentology is explored by L. A. Bulachovskyi, I. I. Ogiienko, Z. M. Veselovska, V. G. Sklarenko, V. M. Vynnytskyi etc. O. O. Potebnia was the first in Ukrainian linguistics who investigated the accent. He applied the comparative method to the East Slavic prosody system, gathered accentual material of East Slavic languages. In this paper, we shall focus our attention on the historical accentual patterns of adjectives in Ukrainian language based on Ukrainian and Russian editions of the "Grammar" by Meletii Smotrytskyi 1619 and 1648. The major task of this study is to provide the difference between "formal" adjectives’ accent of the Ukrainian language 17th century and the same accented Russian print version. In sum, the comparing analysis was proved that in the majority of cases such accentual differences were not erroneous.
