Abstract

Ukraine has one typical specialty – during all its stages of existence one can follow two selfrepressing tendencies in its administrative and territorial system: the desire to preserve historical kind of territorial order which emerges as regionalization and decentralization and the creation of new administrative units which is rational and could level regional diRerences and strengthen centralization. Taking historically old and modern experience into consideration one could say that forced federalization of Ukraine which is supported by some political circles is a threat for territorial unity of Ukraine. Se most important issue to be solved today is the creation of optimal pattern of Ukraine’s administrative and territorial system which will be able to preserve strong central power and maintain the unity of state and in the same time keep the uniqueness of each region.<br/><br/>
