Journal Title: Наукові праці. Серія "Історія" - Year 2018, Vol 310, Issue 298

Abstract

The peculiarities of the formation and development of adult education among the national minorities of the South of Ukraine in the 1920–30s were analyzed. Activities of German, Jewish, Polish, Bulgarian and other professional pedagogical, agricultural, industrial technical colleges and institutes, as well as labor faculties and party-Soviet schools were considered. Particular attention is paid to the elimination of illiteracy among the national minorities in the region. It is indicated that the highest percentage of liter-acy was observed among Jewish and German nationalities. It is noted that in order to increase the level of political education of adults and to prepare them for admission to higher educa-tional institutions, additional forms of education were created in the form of labor departments and party-Soviet schools. It has been proved that the opening of labor departments among national minorities has not become widespread, that revealed in the opening the only Jewish workers’ faculty in Ukraine at the Odesa Institute of Public Education. Instead, the number of party-Soviet schools was much larger, which spoke about their popularity among the population and made it possible for the future to manage national party institutions and cultural and educational institutions. It was proved that in the 1920s – the first half of the 1930s, was formed a sophisticated, ramified, effective in its activity adult education system, which satisfied the educational needs of national minorities of Ukraine, but at the same time, national educational institutions became carriers of communist ideology aimed at upbringing a new pro-communist youth – an ideological base of a new order.
