Advantage of Bayesian approach to geotechnical designing
Journal Title: Annals of Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW. Land Reclamation - Year 2009, Vol 41, Issue 2
Abstract
The paper addresses the possibility of the Bayesian approach’s application to geotechnical engineering. First the principal information on the Bayesian analysis has been presented and its applications to estimate the soil parameters based on the CPT/DMT tests at SGGW Campus in Warsaw afterwards. The CPT/DMT tests had been carried out in order to recognize the geotechnical conditions in the foundations of design campus buildings. The data from two layers of glacial boulder clays have been analysed. The results demonstrate that the Bayesian approach is a useful tool in evaluation of ground properties and estimation of the geotechnical parameters in specified circumstances.

Undrained shear strength of the heavily consolidated clay
The undrained shear strength cu is considered one of the most basic parameter characterizing soils in engineering practice. The particular importance of cu is in the case of clayey soil. This parameter also is the basis...
Identification of vegetation parameters for compound channel discharge as inverse problem
In recent years many sophisticated models for discharge capacity of compound channels with vegetation have been developed. Despite the mature state of knowledge in this field, in a practice the simplest methods prevail a...
Material damping ratio from free-vibration method
One important aspect of soil dynamics is attenuation or energy loses. This inherent dynamic property is essential in the analysis of soil behavior subjected to a dynamic load. Energy absorption in soils leads to the defi...
Wskaźniki stopnia ustabilizowania osadu w procesie tlenowej stabilizacji
