Airway management and anaesthesia in maxillofacial trauma
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Anesthesiology - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
Maxillofacial trauma forms a major part of patients attending emergency department because of the frequency and abundant occurrence. Management of airway is pivotal due to distorted anatomy, urgency of establishing airway and proximity of surgical field. This prospective longitudinal clinical study was done in AJ Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research Centre between January 2017 and December 2017. 100 between the age group of 20 to 60years of both the sexes were included in this study. The patients were intubated considering the distorted anatomy of the airway, oropharyngeal bleeding, stability of the cervical spine and the results were tabulated. The techniques included oral and nasal intubation, fibreoptic and rapid sequence induction. This study gives an insight towards the importance to the techniques of securing the airway in maxillofacial trauma cases.

A comparative study of dexmedetomidine and nalbuphine as an adjuvant to bupivacaine in lower limb surgeries done under epidural anaesthesia
Aims and Objectives: To compare the clinical profile of Nalbuphine and Dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to Bupivacaine when administered epidurally with respect to sensory and motor blockade, level of sedation and duration...
A randomized prospective study of the efficacy of dexamethasone or clonidine as an additive to local anaesthetic for supraclavicular block for upper limb surgeries in a tertiary care hospital
Background: Supraclavicular brachial plexus block is one of the most regular techniques of regional anaesthesia employed for upper limb surgeries. In observation of prolonging the sensory block and duration of block, dif...
Comparison of hemodynamic stability of combined spinal anesthesia with low dose spinal anesthesia and epidural volume extension by saline as compared to epidural anaesthesia for patients undergoing elective lower limb surgery
Administration of saline in epidural space following intrathecal drug administration constitutes Epidural Volume Extension. In our study we involved 40 patients who were planned to undergo elective lower limb surgery, wh...
A comparative study of combination of dexmedetomidine and midazolam versus combination of midazolam and fentanyl for modified radical mastoidectomy under monitored anaesthesia care
Background: Monitored anaesthesia care (MAC) has gained importance in anaesthesia for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in view of providing safe sedation, controlling patient’s anxiety and pain control. MAC typ...
The efficacy of two different doses of gabapentin (300mg and 600mg) along with NSAID (diclofenac transdermal patch 100mg) in postoperative pain management following abdominal hysterectomy
Context: Gabapentin, an antiepileptic drug has a role in acute postoperative pain management due to its anti hyperalgesic property. Pre-emptive analgesia is the recent concept in multi modal pain management. The purpose...
