ALKYLPOLYGLUCOSIDES, AS SURFACE ACTIVE COMPOUNDS, DECREASING FRICTION COEFFICIENT AND WEAR IN TRIBOSYSTEMS MADE FROM DIFFERENT MATERIALS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 226, Issue 4

Abstract

As additives improving water lubricity alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) were proposed. Two APGs having alkyl chains of various lengths and various polymerization degree were tested. The tribological tests were performed using a ball-on-disc tester. The balls were made of steel, the discs of alumina, zirconia, polyamide, and polymethylmethacrylate. Addition of APG improves water lubricity. The decrease of motion resistance and wear depends on the material of the tribosystem and the type of APG. The results of tribological tests were correlated with activity of APG measured as the wettability of the friction couples by the solutions.
