THE EFFECT OF THE OIL MODIFICATION BY NANOPARTICLES OF COPPER ON ITS LUBRICATION EFFICIENCY
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 264, Issue 6
Abstract
The paper presents the effect of nanoparticles of copper on the effectiveness of lubrication oil. Paraffin oil AP/E Core 600 was selected as the base oil. This was modified with an ingredient to form a lubricating additive of 0.02% Cu and 0.25% Cu with a granulation of 40 nm with the addition of 0.02% Cu/CuO or 0.25% Cu/CuO with a granulation 100 nm. The following program was applied for the studies: (1) the assessment of the effectiveness of the oil according to two criteria: seizure load Fz and wear characteristics as a function of the load d = f (F); and, (2) the assessment of the effectiveness of the lubricity of additives contained in the oil based on the limit wear load index Goz/40. All tests were conducted on a standard four-ball tester. The first stage was realized with the guidelines of the PN-76/C-04147 „Research lubricating properties of oils and lubricants”. A second step determined the limit wear load index Goz/40, according to the methodology described in WTWT-94 / MPS-025. The adopted load was 40 daN, with a run time of 3600 s and the speed of the upper balls was n = 500 rpm. The higher ratio Goz/40, the better was the effectiveness of the test lubricant to reduce wear. Tests in each stage and for each measurement point were always repeated at least five times. The results were statistically within a confidence level of 95% using Student's t-test.
