VIBRATION DIAGNOSTICS AS A METHOD OF SUPPORT FOR OIL TO LUBRICATE A TOOTHED GEAR

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 239, Issue 5

Abstract

The paper presents the problem of supporting the selection of optimum viscosity grade lubricating oil to the cylindrical gear by using vibration analysis. For power plants operating with a conveyor belt drive system with a hine oil lubricated gearbox with too low viscosity grade (ISO VG 46) casing vibration measurements by stating their elevated levels were made at selected points. Therefore the use of gear oil of viscosity grade VG 150 was proposed, that as research results showed, reduced the amplitude (and therefore the noise) generated by the transmission, and reduced the oil temperature about 15%. Presented a practical example documents the possibility of using vibration diagnosis as a method of support in the process of optimising the selection of oil for the lubrication industrial toothed gears.
