Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science, Biology and Bioeconomy - Year 2017, Vol 35, Issue 4

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the results of stallions and mares evaluated of training stations and to determine the influence of year of testing, sex, breed and horse breeding sector. The study included 36 half-bred stallions and 194 half-bred mares evaluated in perfor-mance tests during 2014–2016. As not all traits were evaluated in both horse sexes, the study included these traits that were assessed in both, stallions and mares. The study included: character, temperament, trainability, free-jumping, walk, trot, canter, ride ability assessed by a test rider. The effect of sex, year of testing, horse breeding sector and breed of horses on the level of ratings for particular traits was determined. The results were examined by statistical analyses. Significant effect of year of testing, sex and breed of horses as well as their background from particular horse breeding sector on the score’s level received by studied horses for selected traits was found. The stallions received higher scores comparing to mares. The horses of foreign breeding obtained the highest ratings.
