AN INTRACULTURAL EVALUATION: "MUSICAL PREFERENCE” IN THE AXIS OF SOCIAL NORMS
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2014, Vol 7, Issue 30
Abstract
In this work, which is in favor of the idea that a certain behaviour is related to a whole of parameters and that it exists because of these parameters, the process of musical preference will be associated with key concepts as sociocentrizm (‘social norms’ as a desicisive authority), egocentrizm (free-will) and freedom. Reasoning will be used as a method of anaylsis. Does the individual have a complete free-will concerning the musical preferences that he/she makes? Does he/she feel the social, political and cultural pressure of the community that he/she belongs to? Questions like these will be taken into consideration while analysing how the musical preferences are formed on the individual axis. Thus, ‘understanding’ rather than ‘narration’ is the priority of this article that follows the stream of thought in the social sciences.
