ANAEROBIC PHYSICAL FITNESS OF TOP-CLASS TAEKWON-DO COMPETITORS

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2006, Vol 22, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The aim of this study was to determine the anaerobic efficiency of taekwon-do competitors and its correlation with sport results, as well as to elaborate norms and criteria for the assessment of anaerobic parameters. Material and methods. The study material were 4 groups of taekwon-do competitors: those not achieving good sport results- the Ik group (women, n=25) and the Im group (men, n=50) and the best Polish competitors – the IIk group (n=19) and the IIm group (n=37). They were examined by means of the 30-second Wingate test and the analysis of sports results, with use of basic statistics.Results. The best taekwon-do competitors are characterized by higher (from 2 to 49%) parameters of anaerobic physical fitness (except for the maintenance of maximum power among women) High interdependence between maximum power, total work and sports result was noted only among the best female competitors.Conclusions. 1. Significantly higher parameters of anaerobic efficiency were noted in top competitors. 2. The structure of physical fitness depends on gender. 3. Women are characterised by reserve anaerobic potential. 4. Four-degree assessment scale of maximum power, total work, time of reaching and maintaining of maximum power in taekwon-do competitors enables controling of training results.
