Analiza minerałów ciężkich jako metoda określania źródła osadów wodnolodowcowych w obszarze między Piotrkowem Trybunalskim, Radomskiem a Przedborzem
Journal Title: Acta Geographica Lodziensia - Year 2015, Vol 103, Issue
Abstract
The study was conducted in the area between Piotrków Trybunalski, Radomsko and Przedbórz (Fig. 1, Tab. 2), where the substrate is generally covered with a thin Cainozoic layer (except for Kleszczów Graben). In the south, Mesozoic rocks are often found as monadnock hills. During the mineralogical analyses minerals were divided into opaque and transparent ones (Tab. 3) and six groups of transparent minerals were selected (Tab. 1). Mineralogical analysis was conducted to identify the proportion of Scandinavian detritus and local material in the Quaternary cover in different parts of the area, and to try to identify sources of feeding and indirectly the transport direction of detritus component of the youngest level glaciofluvial deposits that build different types of glacial forms. Spectra of 39 samples of glaciofluvial sediment (Fig. 2, Tab. 3) lying within the morainic plateau were taken into consideration. The results of the remaining 9 samples from the sediment being older or younger, and coming from the weathering levels were skipped in the discussion. In the spatial analysis of the transparent mineral composition some regularity is visible (Figs 3–6). In the south, in the zone I minerals most resistant to weathering play the biggest role in mineralogical spectra. The case is the Ochotnik site in the sediment of marginal cone, partly covered with basal till (short transport of high dynamics?) and in the Miejskie Pola, where the sediment surrounded by hills of the Przedbórz Range with glaciolacustrine sandy silt (redeposited?) has a spectrum rich in the most resistant minerals (including staurolite and zircon) (Fig. 3). To the north, generally the percentage of minerals more susceptible to weathering, semi resistant (eg. epidotes and garnets) and non-resistant, especially amphibole (up to 55%) and pyroxene, which are easily crushed and grinded, is increasing. They were interpreted as indicators of the source of the Scandinavian weathering igneous and metamorphic rocks. The role of the Mesozoic substrate is significant only in exceptional cases. The main examples are two sites: Ludwików (on the slope of monadnocks and hump of the basement – Fig. 3) and Teklin II (role of the Kleszczów Graben – Fig. 4). A small part of limestone and phosphate is noted in other spectra, eg. in some samples from Daniszewice, as well as Kamieńsk and Borowa III (Fig. 5), and in Łazy Dąbrowa, on the Piotrków Plain (Fig. 6). Likewise, “local” mineral, glauconite, was found in significant amount only at the Kolonia Ręczno and Daniszewice sites, but there are also traces in spectra of deposits from other positions. A characteristic feature of all analyzed glaciofluvial sediment samples is significant and sometimes dominant share of transparent minerals – micas and chlorites. Their widespread presence proves the role of winds accompanying the glaciofluvial and “spilled” processes, which enabled last out of non-resistant minerals in the limnoglacial reservoirs or in the bottom of valleys. Mineralogical studies provided information on aeolian processes in shaping glaciofluvial levels. They also indicated that the glacimarginal forms located on the northern slopes of the highlands between Kamieńsk, Kodrąb and Przedbórz were created during the same glacial episode as the forms in the western lobe (Widawka). They contribute as well to the hypothesis of the existence of the Pilica and Luciąża lobe as the most marginal parts of the eastern lobe (Rawka) of the Warta stadial.
