ANALYSIS OF LANDSLIDE SUCCEPTIBILITY OF MANAV STREAM BASIN (BİNGÖL)
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 42
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the landslide susceptibility of Manav Stream Basin. Being one of the important tributaries of Peri River, Manav Stream is connected to Peri River at Özlüce Dam. This basin remains in the southeast of Erzincan and in the south of North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ). Rocks formed in different periods, from Jurassic-Cretaceous to Mid-Pliocene, have been surfaced in Manav Stream Basin. Tuff of Solhan Formation’s member formed in Upper Miocene-Pliocene period, as well as marl and claystone formed in Middle Eocene-Lower Miocene , have been surfaced in large areas. The basin has been cut by faults with right lateral strikes. Due to tectonic effects, there is an approximately 1700 m elevation difference in the basin. In the basin where average slope is 23o, slope values go over 45o. On the sides of valley with high slope values, large landslides have been seen due to the efffects of lithology. As a result of the basin's being cut by faults in NW-SE direction, the rate of sides facing the south is much. The precipitation is seen to increase in winter and spring in the basin where it is annually over 1000 mm. Snow thickness reaches 3-4 m in mountainous areas. The basin appears to be moderate in intensity in terms of vegetation, according to the data taken from the Landsat 8 OLI-TRS images, in June 2015. Landslide susceptibility analysis for Manav Stream Basin has been formed using lithology, slope, the distance to the fault line and stream network, drainage density, aspect and vegetation parameters. Frequency ratio method has been used for landslide susceptibility analysis. In this method, parameter maps have been reclassified and subclasses have been created. The parameter map and the number of pixels of the subclasses have been determined using zonal statistics. Subclasses' number of pixels with landslide has been divided by the total number of pixels with landslide and the landslide percentage of subclasses of factors affecting landslide has been determined (PLO-Percent Landslide Occurrence). The number of subclasses has been divided by the total number of pixels of classes and the percentage of subclasses of factors affecting landslide has been determined (PIF-Percent Influencing Factor). LSI (Landslide Susceptibility Index) has been obtained using PLO/PIF. LSI values found have been assigned to the subclasses of parameter maps. These maps have been overlayed using Raster Calculator tool and landslide susceptibility map has been created. The map obtained has been categorized into five classes, as very low, low, medium, high and very high. Being the largest settlements in the basin, Sabırtaşı, Açıkgüney, Yazgünü are in the high-susceptible class in susceptibility map. The highway connecting these settlements is also in the high-susceptible class. Certain measures must be taken due to the fact that the settlements, agricultural lands and highway are in the medium and high-susceptible classes. Taking the susceptibility map into account, these settlements must be monitored in terms of landslide.
