Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate and analyze reasons and motives for participation in sports for all. The method of the study was descriptive-analytical. The population of the study consisted of the people participating in sports for all in health stations in Kermanshah city. Using Morgan table, a number of 350 people were randomly selected as the participants. Reasons for Participation in Competition Sport and Physical Activity questionnaire (RPCSPA) developed by Winberg and colleagues (2000) was used to collect the data. Both descriptive and inferential statistics including Friedman test and Mann Whitney U test were run to analyze the data (P0.05). The results showed that the main motivations for participation in sports for all include social energy, fitness, working off energy, intrinsic motivation, group work, entertainment, extrinsic motivation and competitions, respectively (X2=17.153, df=7, P<0.05). The results showed a significant difference in motivations for participation in sports for all between men and women (P0.01).
