Analysis of options for building energy supply systems of theEarth on the lunar surface

Abstract

The absence of an atmosphere on the Moon gives a number of advantages (there are no clouds, dustiness of the atmosphere, absorption of the light flux emitted by the Sun, etc.) dealing with the converting of solar energy into electric energy. The surface of the Moon receives much wider range of radiation than on the Earth. The creation of the Lunar Solar Electrical Station (LSES) involves the placement of solar cells and ultrahigh-frequency (microwave) radiating antennas on the Moon's surface for the accumulation and transmission of energy to the Earth in the form of microwave radiation. The appearance and functioning of the station depend on the area for the solar collectors placement, the length of power lines and the use of energy storage. The question is considered regarding micrometeorites, which can cause substantial damage of the objects or elements of LSES and its technical solution. The analysis shows the urgency of LSES creating as an integral part of the Earth's energy supply system. The content of helium-3 on the Moon is 10 thousand times higher than on the Earth and there is no scattering in the atmosphere, helium-3 settles in the regolith (the upper layer of the lunar soil). The possibility of its extraction and use as a nuclear fuel for reactors in which controlled thermonuclear fusion (a reaction of deuterium with helium-3) is possible, can be considered as the second phase of the power plants creation on the Moon. Creation of the energy supply system of the Earth with the help of power plants placed on the surface of the Moon requires the creation of world cooperation of all leading space states. It is "clean" energy that can save the Earth from the impending energy crisis and prevent further pollution of the environment.
