ANALYZING EXISTING APPLIED MODELS OF THE IONOSPHERE TO CALCULATE RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION AND A POSSIBILITY OF THEIR USE FOR RADAR-TRACKING SYSTEMS. II. DOMESTIC MODELS
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2020, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
We consider the ionospheric models that are suitable for over-the-horizon HF and UHF band radars. Namely, there are three such models: the numerical model developed by IZMIRAN and Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics, the numerical model designed by ISTP SB RAS and IDG RAS, and the probabilistic model worked out by IDG RAS. We briefly describe these models and report the results of the analysis of their compliance with radar requirements. Probabilistic models are shown to be most promising; hence, they must be placed at the frontier of ionosphere simulation.

SPATIAL STRUCTURE OF AZIMUTHALLY SMALL-SCALE MHD WAVES IN ONE-DIMENSIONALLY INHOMOGENEOUS FINITE PRESSURE PLASMA WITH CURVED FIELD LINES
We have studied propagation of hydromagnetic (MHD) waves in one-dimensionally inhomogeneous finite pressure plasma with curved field lines. Magnetic surfaces are considered to be concentric cylinders, where the cylinder’...
METHOD FOR CALCULATING TORSIONAL OSCILLATIONS IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE FROM NCEP/NCAR, MERRA-2, ECMWF ERA-40, AND ERA-INTERIM
In this paper, we describe a method for calculating low-frequency zonal-mean zonal wind variations, which we call torsional oscillations. We compare the torsional oscillations calculated from the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis I,...
FEATURES OF SHORT-PERIOD VARIABILITY OF TOTAL ELECTRON CONTENT AT HIGH AND MIDDLE LATITUDES
The study presents the results of comparative analysis of features of a short-period (with periods of internal gravity waves) variability of total electron content (TEC) in the ionosphere at middle (Novosibirsk) and high...
SOLAR ACTIVITY CYCLE 25: THE FIRST THREE YEARS
We analyze features of current solar activity cycle 25 for the first three years of its development (2020–2022). Compared to cycle 24, the current cycle is shown to exceed the previous one in the number of sunspot groups...
SCALE SEQUENTIALLY CLEAN FOR MINGANTU SPECTRAL RADIOHELIOGRAPH
MingantU SpEctral Radioheliograph (MUSER) is a solar-dedicated radio heliograph, adopting aperture synthesis technique to image the Sun in the frequency range of 0.4 GHz to 15 GHz. MUSER has extremely high spatial resolu...
