ANGER EXPRESSION AND BONDS WITH PARENTS IN DEPRESSION. RESEARCH OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN PSYCHOTHERAPY.

Journal Title: Psychiatria i Psychoterapia - Year 2012, Vol 8, Issue 1

Abstract

Purpose of the study: The aim of this study was comparative analysis of the ways of anger expression and the quality and dynamics of bonds with parents (mother and father separately) in patients with depression (participating in psychotherapy) and healthy people (who did not take part in psychotherapy, without indications for therapy, revealing no symptoms of disease). Material and method: We analyzed sample of 35 patients with a diagnosis of depression (depressive episode or recurrent), which are in the initial phase of individual integrative psychotherapy and a comparable sample of healthy individuals. Self-Expression and Control Scale (van Elderen and al.) and a survey dedicated to the research were used. Results: There are differences in the anger expression between people with depression and people without symptoms of disease. The quality of early childhood relationships with parents (before 12 years of age) and dynamics of bonds in other important developmental periods (early primary school, adolescence, adulthood) did not differentiate statistically significant at the level of depressed and healthy peoples. There are links between the dynamics and quality of bonds with parents and the anger expression by individuals undergoing psychotherapy of depression. Conclusions: Working within bond with the object and work with anger adequately determine the direction of effects in psychotherapy of depression.
