Annona muricata (guanabana) citotoxic effect in lung and abdominal neoplasms cell lines

Abstract
[b]Objective: [/b]To determine the antitumoral “in vitro” activity of the ethanolic extract Annona muricata leaves in H460 and C678 cellular lines. [b]Design: [/b]experimental study.[b] Setting:[/b] Laboratory of the San Marcos University Pharmacology Department and Sciences and Philosophy Faculty of Cayetano Heredia University. [b]Materials: [/b]Tumor cell lines C-678 and H-460. Interventions: The ethanolic extract of Annona muricata leaves was faced in “in vitro” cultures of tumor cell lines and their activity was compared with 5 Fluoruracilo (5FU). Culture of VERO cells was used as control. [b]Main outcome measures: [/b]Annona muricata cytotoxic activity in C-678 and H-460 cell lines. [b]Results:[/b] We found the percentage of cellular growth for every dilution in every cellular line comparing the number of cells before and after the application of the extract and the drug. The inhibiting concentration of average growth for each cellular line from ethanolic extract of Annona muricata leaves was less than 0, 00022. However, the inhibiting concentration with 5 FU was 0,003, 0.0013 and 0, 0043 mg/ml for H460, C678 and VERO cells, respectively. [b]Conclusions: [/b]The ethanolic extract of Annona muricata leaves showed cytotoxic effect in C-678 and H-460 tumoral cell lines. The ethanolic extract concentrations used seem to be more cytotoxic than 5FU.
