Anomalous Origin of Left Testicular Artery from Left Accessory Renal Artery – A Case Report
Journal Title: Journal of Medical Research and Practice - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
Gonadal arteries arising from accessory renal arteries present an important variation that should be noted to educate clinicians involved in abdominal and urogenital surgical procedures. During routine dissection, we observed the unusual origin of the left testicular artery from an accessory renal artery in a middle- aged male cadaver. Also, the absence of the origin of the right testicular artery from the aorta and multiple right testicular veins drained into the right renal vein and to the inferior vena cava, while the left testicular vein drained into the left renal vein. The presence of variation of both the testicular arteries as well as the testicular vein is seldom seen together. The prevalence of variations in the origin and course of the testicular artery displays the differences in the varied population. Though accessory renal arteries have been reported in literature, cases of such vessels giving rise to gonadal vessels are limited. The possible embryologic bases for this variation as well as its clinical significance are discussed.
