Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 55

Abstract

Literature’s main source of nutrition is human beings, which contains the state of the unending war on earth. Social history has created a field of "war literature" that has also influenced the shaping of thematic focus Turkish literature as it is in other national literatures. The history of Turkish and the history of Turkish Cypriots is quite rich in terms of war experience. This situation strengthens the warliterature relation in Turkish novels. Turkish Cypriot literature shows a development that is the basis of war literature. As a matter of fact, it is seen that the discourses of independence and freedom became clearer because of the social and political processes that took place at the end of the 1950s. The Turkish Cypriot novel stands out with its function of witnessing social and political history. In this context, nonsolution of the island bears on the literature. After 1963, the novel left the process of confronting the Turkish Cypriot community's own reality and developed in the form of an extension of "literary literature". Almost all of the novels published after this date show the discourse of freedom that is built in an effort to create a certain future that develops in parallel with the wars that are inadvertently waged. After 1974, it is seen that in the Turkish Cypriot novel, humanist tendencies and the separatist and alienating policies of the island are assessed, and that the common processes of life in the light of the rising discourses of peace have been brought to light. In the study, general aspects of the discourse of war and peace in the Turkish Cypriot novel will be determined through descriptive content analysis and the attitudes of the authors exhibited in parallel with humanist approaches will be examined.
