Application of Fin System on Adsorption of Methylene Blue Dye using Adsorbent Coating Layer: Mathematical Formulae
Journal Title: Journal of Engineering and Technological Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 49, Issue 3
Abstract
Dye solution treatment using a fin system is a new adsorption treatment technique that can replace expensive conventional adsorption treatment units that are currently mostly used in industry. The fins function as the media for an adsorbent coating and are immersed in a tank containing dye wastewater. By installing the coated fins in the tank, the dye concentration can be easily reduced up to 90%. The purpose of the present study was to develop simple mathematical equations for the fin system using an adsorbent coating layer (ACL). The equilibrium adsorption data fitted to the Langmuir isotherm, indicating that the adsorption surface is homogeneous and in monolayer state. A mathematical formula derived from the isotherm model of adsorption was developed that can be used on large-scale removal of methylene blue dye from industrial wastewater since the error percentage between the calculated and the experimental values was less than 15%.

A Reconstruction Method for Compressed Sampling in Shift-Invariant Spaces
A traditional sampling method is that the signal should be sampled at a rate exceeding twice the highest frequency. This is based on the assumption that the signal occupies the entire bandwidth. In practice, however, man...
Removal of Copper (II) Ions in Aqueous Solutions by Sorption onto Fly Ash
The ability of fly ash to adsorp Cu(II) ions from two different coal combustion systems was studied. Optimum removal was found at pH 5, contact time 30 minutes and 60 minutes for Fly Ash 1 and Fly Ash 2, respectively, an...
Pervaporation of Acetic Acid-Water Mixture Using Silica Membrane Prepared by Sol-Gel Method
Silica membranes were developed and tested for the separation of acetic acid and water by pervaporation. Thin microporous silica membranes were prepared on a porous alumina tube by sol-gel method using tetraethyl orthosi...
The Effect of Element Types on Force Analogy Method Analysis
In this study, the seismic performance of a 2D portal frame subjected to the recorded seismic ground motions of the Northridge 1994 earthquake was evaluated by the force analogy method (FAM) with different element types....
Preliminary Study on Treatment of Palm Oil Mill Effluent by Sand Filtration-Dielectric Barrier Discharge System
In the palm oil industry, open ponding, aerobic and anaerobic digestion, physicochemical treatment and membrane filtration are generally applied as conventional treatments of palm oil mill effluent (POME). In this study,...
