Applications of biotechnology to the propagation of papaya

Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2005, Vol 5, Issue 2

Abstract

The papaya (Carica papaya L.) is one of the most world wide consumed fruit. The use of the biotechnology as a tool in the micropropagation of elite plant in this specie can be an alternative to acelarate its multiplication, as well as the comercial scale introduction of new varieties and hybrids. This work has as objetive to approach a general overview of the principal scientific considerations about the plant biotechnology use as a tool for the papaya in vitro propagation and conservation. Also, in this work, are showed some experience of the researchersfrom the Institute of Plants Biotechnology , that have a practical complement to this review.
