Applications of nanomaterials in medicine
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 6
Abstract
Nanomaterials, which represent a class of materials based on nanoscale structures, have many applications, especially in the field of medicine. The word “nano” is derived from the Greek word “dwarf” meaning, in certain measurements, “one billionth”. Also, the word “nano” refers to materials of very small size. Applications of nanomaterials in medicine include among others, applications of nanoparticles, applications of nanosensors and applications of nanorobots. Nanoparticles in medicine are used in the advancement of drug delivery. Nanosensors in medicine are used to identify the cells in the human body, accurately. Nanorobots in medicine are used to perform a specific task regarding diagnosis and treatment of various diseases with precision. Today, nanomaterials are used in many ways in medicine, more frequently than in the past. It is no exaggeration to say that the world of nanomaterials is experiencing a revolutionary change in the 21st century for the betterment of humanity at large.
