APTIS AS A TOOL FOR LANGUAGE EDUCATION QUALITY CONTROL: UK EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The problem of providing language education quality at the higher school in the context of adaptation of successful international practices in Ukrainian establishments of higher education is considered in the article. It has been found that APTIS test is able to provide the appropriate quality, which is based on its correspondence to the Common European Framework of References; a certain level of customers’ needs individualization; experience and international reputation of its designer. It has been identified that the potential of the APTIS usage as a tool for quality testing in educational area enables consideration of the wide international context; involving large circle of the target audience; identifying precisely and meeting personal needs of applicants; providing flexible and convenient access to the test procedure. It has been characterized the following aspects of the APTIS potential realization in the higher school: design of high-quality educational programmes for learning English; improvement of English teaching in correspondence with international standards; diagnostics of the current level of English among HE students, teachers, academics at different stages of English course mastering; verifying English qualification; identification of applicants with a sufficient English level aimed at its further realization in different contexts. The requirements and recommendations for APTIS usage as a tool for the language education quality assessment in the context of its adaptation to Ukrainian higher school reality are offered, particularly, for displaced universities.
