As tecnologias da informação e comunicação como apoio à evolução da internacionalização do ensino superior

Abstract

In the 21st century, globalization strongly influences Higher Education and the current globalized and interconnected world scenario demands qualified graduates to work in this context. Global skills, intercultural competencies and the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) become demands of the working market. Therefore, both ICTs and internationalization must be present and active in higher education teaching and learning process. Studies on internationalization of higher education indicate that for a university to be considered internationalized, it must provide an international educational experience for all its students. Academic mobility is still limited to a small percentage of the global student population, either because of the difficulty of absence of their origins or due to unavailability of financial resources. Thus, ICTs can be used to support students in developing international perspectives, interacting with people from other cultures, and actively engaging in intercultural learning. This article aims to discuss how ICTs can support higher education internationalization progress, as well as to incite reflections on the subject and the challenges presented to higher education institutions that aim to fulfill their role of educating global citizens.
