Assessment of the nutritional status in 7 to 10 year-old children from Podlasie region

Abstract
Introduction: The proper nutritional status of children enables their growth and development. Overweight and obesity as well as malnutrition are hazardous for children's health. Aim of study: Assessment of the nutritional status in 7 to 10 years old children. Material and methods: The study was conducted in 2006 on 1304 pupils (604 girls, 700 boys) in 13 randomised Crammar Schools from Białystok. Nutritional status was assessed according to BMI values referred to Polish BMI standards charts. Obesity was diagnosed for BMI >97c, overweight for BMI values 97-90c and malnutrition for BMI
