Availability of proper drug dose formulation in newborn care settings in Burdwan Medical College & Hospital

Abstract

Methods: An observational study in newborn care units of Burdwan Medical College & Hospital was carried out for a period of 6 weeks. Commonly used drugs in newborn care units were analysed and compared with National Formulary of India, National List of Essential Medicines and IAP Paediatric Drug Formulary.Results: A total of 203 participants were enrolled. Most of the commonly used drugs were available either from the government supply or from the Najyamuller Aushadher Dokan in appropriate drug dose formulation except few. Most of them were listed in National Formulary of India, National List of Essential Medicines and IAP Paediatric Drug Formulary.Conclusion: Respective local and higher authorities should take up the responsibility to make avail all of the commonly used drugs in proper drug dose formulation with respect to newborn care settings.
