АВТОРЕФЛЕКСИВНИЙ НАРАТИВ У ПОВІСТІ ГЕРМАНА ГЕССЕ «КУРОРТНИК»

Abstract
Стаття присвячена висвітленню проблеми авторефлексивного наративу у повісті Германа Гессе «Курортник». Аналізуються засадничі моральні антиномії «життя і смерті», «добра і зла», під кутом зору біполярного способу мислення. Розкривається специфіка форми оповіді автобіографічного наратора, його присутність як в екзегезисі, так і в дієгезисі. Характеризується жанрова особливість повісті: поєднання форми есе, нотаток, спостережень для розгортання головних тем у їх взаємній суперечностиі і гармонійній єдності.Наголошується, що біполярний спосіб мислення виконує текстотворчу функцію і є також предметом поглиблених гносеологічних розмислів автора. The article that analyzes Herman Hesse’s novella Health-Resort Visitor deals with the problem of auto-reflexive narrative, the I-narrative that conveys the personal, in the contemporary context of studying identity. Auto-reflection and its synonym, self-reflection, are the key concepts. Occupying a special place in Hesse’s oeuvre, the novella Health-Resort Visitor detours from the writer’s general didactic and philosophic stance, while synthesizing the author’s observations and speculations over the world and the creative process. The text presents itself as a mixture of literary play, humour, irony and self-irony. The bipolar method of thinking directs the writer’s thought from one antinomy to another. In Health-Resort Visitor the bipolar way of thinking is indeed the central «character». It is from the point of view of the bipolar thinking that the fundamental antinomies like «life and death», «good and evil» are being studied. The analysis reveals the specific nature of the autobiographical narration, and the presence of the autobiographical narrator both in exegesis and diegesis. Hesse creates an unconventional relation between the subject-observer, the narrating I (Hesse, the writer / the patient at the resort), and the object of the observation, the narrating I (Hesse, the character / the patient at the resort). The peculiar feature of the «language experiment» – the rupture of the narrative by means of direct authorial utterances that concern writing and creative process and do not belong to the subject-observer, the narrating I—is analyzed as «narrative metalepsis» (G. Genette). Special attention is paid to the analysis of genre characteristics of the novella: the combination of the forms of essay, notes, and observations aimed at developing the main themes, works in their mutual contradiction and harmonic unity. It is emphasized that the bipolar way of thinking functions as a means of text creation and is also a subject of the author’s in-depth gnoseological reflections. The fundamental and decisive role in self-reflection is given to the linguistic and speculative, signifying and symbolic means. In dialogue with himself Hesse-the author steps out of his familiar image, and abandons the conventional understanding of the specific complicated circumstances, instead establishing a critical view of him and the world. Such vision reveals the consistent patterns behind everyday events, and helps find the ways out of crisis.
