Banking system stabilizing in the European Union

Abstract
A crisis we have to deal with recently on the global financial market, requires an ever more radical measures, which are designed to restore the long-term and multi-aspect stability in the banking sector. The scale of the current crisis in the banking business and its results have to reached such a dimension that the stabilization should be carried out both at the global, continental and national lev-els. The paper presents an overview of the major stabilization efforts that have been undertaken in the banking sector in the EU in response to the challenges and risks arising from the impact of the current crisis. The issues related to the creation and organization of the banking union, macroprudential supervision and resolution have been discussed. The special role in the creation of a new architecture for financial stability in Europe belongs to the financial safety net in EU Member States and EU authorities.
