BENEFITS OF TEACHING ESL THROUGH COMIC STRIPS

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine in what way comic strips benefit in reading, writing and speaking skills of Ukrainian ESL learners. Ukrainian education is being transformed at the moment to become the equal member of European educational space. Both professional competence and foreign language skills are of great importance for modern Ukrainian student. So the complex of educational methods and techniques should meet the current requirements and should be constantly updated. One of the language learning tools which can easily benefit in teaching ESL is studying through comics. The results of the quantitative analyses showed that all students with a comic strip effect, performed better than the ones without the comic strips. The findings of the study confirm the statement that students who are major in technical disciplines, in particular, are better at reading, writing and speaking when the tasks are accompanied with visuals. The advantages of comic based activities are given in the paper.
