BIG BAND AND POP-SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: GENESIS, THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES AND SPECIFIC OF USE

Abstract

The formation of various performances in the history of music is a reflection of the specifics of the development of cultural and historical development. From the birth of jazz it is possible to date the beginning of the formation of ensem- bles intended to perform pop music direction. However, this process was rather lengthy and somewhat chaotic. During the formation of jazz, initially, as antitheses for academic music, there was no certain stable instrument composition. The participants gathered with instruments available to them, and then a general sound was formed, where they decided what batches they would perform. Many orchestras were formed for the sake of appearances in the open space. So there were marking bands walking along the streets, ensembles that played steamboats and various entertainment salons and other institutions. In these performances, the participants played pieces that were composed or picked up by ear. There was no evidence of the existence of arrangement of compositions; moreover, because of the lack of musical education in most of the participants of the first jazz bands, it was impossible. Accordingly, a fairly simple musical material involved a small number of participants whose parties were easily coordinated. In the era of swing, the following composition of the orchestra is established, which includes the rhythm section, where there is a piano, a tool that will perform a bass line (double bass, then a bass guitar), a drum set, as well as a melodic section. This section may include pipes, saxophones and trombones. It should be noted that the number of instruments could vary. It should be noted that besides the big-bands, another type of orchestra is formed, whose performing com- position is connected not so much with the expansion of the jazz band, but with the addition of certain instruments of the symphonic orchestra. It means different types of variety symphony orchestras. Among the contemporary varieties of pop and symphonic orchestras, the following can be singled out, which will differ in quantitative and qualitative composition. So the orchestras of the first group use practically the full composition of the pair symphony orchestra, to which add saxophones and rhythm section. Accordingly, it is possible to note, on the example of pop and symphony orchestras and the big band paths, the inter- section of two traditions – academic and jazz. Due to the fact that in the variety-symphony orchestra there is, usually, a large string group – it makes the sound more soft, designed for variety popular music. However, this composition due to its magnitude is impossible without arrangements, musical text and conductor. It is not too mobile. On the other hand, the big band, which has more chamber composition, implies the presence of instruments with a more pronounced sound, which will not be offset by the softening of strings. The big band, through the use of instruments of the copper group and the rhythm section, has a more coherent sound.
