Bilateral cleft hand and foot: A case report
Journal Title: MedPulse -International Medical Journal - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 5
Abstract
Bilateral presence of cleft hand and foot is a very rare anamoly. It consists of an abnormal cleft between the 2nd and 4th metacarpal bones and soft tissues. The 3rd metacarpal and phalanges are almost always absent. Usually the thumb and index finger, as well as the 4th and 5th fingers may be fused. The two parts of the hand are somewhat opposed to each other and like lobster claw. Similar findings may be present in foot. This condition may be mostly associated with other anamolies. A rare case of bilateral cleft hand and foot in a young lady of 19 years is presented here. There is also syndactyly of first two last two fingers with absence of third metacarpal and middle finger. Second to fourth toes are also absent in both feet. No other anamoly is detected clinically in the present case unlike many other cases.
