Bioethics and bioeconomics: disciplines for the survival of the planet
Journal Title: Trilogía Ciencia Tecnología Sociedad - Year 2019, Vol 11, Issue 20
Abstract
The objective of this article is to identify different theoretical positions of bioethics, bioeconomics, and environmental sustainability on sustainable development in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Primary and secondary sources are critically analyzed adopting qualitative and epistemological-hermeneutical approaches. Sustainable development is a global movement that embraces the environment and is not opposed to advances in science and technology. On the contrary, it strives to preserve a healthy environment and the use of and respect for natural resources to satisfy the needs of the present without compromising the survival of future generations. Bioethics and bioeconomics harmonize human interests so that behaviors are based on morale, respect for the natural resources, and the application of the principle of responsibility.
