BIOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF WOLF TREES IN PINE SAPLINGS IN THE KALISZ FOREST DISTRICT
Journal Title: Zarządzanie ochroną przyrody w lasach - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1
Abstract
The analyses were conducted in the Kalisz Forest Division. Experimental sites were established in two 10-year-old saplings of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) at the different forest site type. The aim of the study was to estimate the basic biometric features of wolf-trees (D-r). The first sapling was established in the compartment no 263b and the forest site type has been described as fresh coniferous site and the type site of the second sapling, located in the compartment no 280f, has been described as mixed moist coniferous forest site. The analyses of the measurements of tree height (h), diameter at the breast height (d1.3) of all living trees are presented here. Also, the comparison between biometric features of all living trees and wolf-trees are being presented. The share of the wolf-trees was rather small, 370 trees/he on average in case of sapling at fresh coniferous site and 340 trees/ha on average in case of the second sapling. The wolf-trees dominated in terms of their size regardless of the forest site type.
