Biopsy- A Crucial diagnostic aid for oral lesions

Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Dental and Medical Sciences (IOSR-JDMS) - Year 2018, Vol 17, Issue 9

Abstract

Biopsy is a valuable aid in diagnosis of diseases which consists of obtaining a specimen of living tissue in order to study its structure, both macro and microscopically. This procedure makes it possible to confirm or deny a diagnosis, as well as to determine the nature and characteristics of the lesion to establish a final diagnosis. As with any disease process in dentistry and medicine, prevention is the best form of therapy and early diagnosis and treatment is the best way of managing pathologic entities. The present paper provides an update on the different biopsy techniques and their indications.
