Bishop UAOC Anton Grynevych (1875-1937)

Abstract

The article reconstructs the life and service of Bishop of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Anton Grynevych, who took care of the parishes of South Western Ukraine. The author make verify of date of birth A. Grynevych, place of his training and service that caused questions. Found out its role in the development of UAOC in region. It is claimed that A. Grynevych born in 1875 and studied at the Podillia seminary. In pre-soviet times took a proactive stance – wrote articles for newspapers and magazines, participated in the congresses of the clergy Podillia diocese, was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Empire. In times of national liberation – an active participant in social and religious movements on national foundation. In Soviet times – an active participant in the development of Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Bishop Balta (1923- 1928), Balta and Pershotravensky (1928-1929). Many times arrested by VUChK-GPU-NKVD. He died in poverty in 1937
