BODY ASYMMETRY WITHIN TRUNK AT CHILDREN OF EARLY SPORTS SPECIALIZATION

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2006, Vol 22, Issue 2

Abstract

Background. High loads and adaptation changes occurring in the organism of a young athlete may cause defects in the motor system. The objective of the study was to assess the frequency of symmetry deviations in the traits selected for diagnosing body posture in children from sports classes against an average school population. Material and methods. The research was carried out in selected primary schools in Lower Silesia (southwestern Poland). The children were aged between 11 and 15 years and the study group consisted of 186 boys and 194 girls from sports classes, while the control group involved 664 boys and 665 girls from non-sports classes (control group). Body posture was evaluated with the photogrammetric method based on the Moire phenomenon and the following parameters were analysed: UK, TT, KLB, UL, OL, KNM, KSM (fig. 1). Results. In boys and girls from sports classes, spinous processes are more often deflected from off C7-S1 line, and the height of both lower scapular angles (UL) and the distance between the lower scapular angles from the vertebral column more often become asymmetrical (OL). Besides, in children taking sports, asymmetry of the pelvic torsion angle in the transverse plane (KSM) and the pelvic inclination angle in the frontal plane (KNM) is more frequent than in control population. In girls from sports classes, asymmetry of the shoulder line inclination angle (KLB) is more frequent.Conclusions. The majority of the analysed traits revealed a higher increase in the trunk asymmetry caused by early sports specialization.
