Broken ties – The child with RAD – A new area of activity for special educators

Journal Title: Men Disability Society - Year 2013, Vol 2013, Issue 1

Abstract

The article discusses the importance of a child’s proper attachment to the caregiver, and thecauses and symptoms of attachment disorders. In special education, the process of forming appropriaterelationships between children and parents is underestimated, while the main aim of therapy andrehabilitation is to correct defects. Studies show, however, that attachment is the basis for the comprehensivedevelopment of children (also children with disabilities). Meanwhile, children with disabilitiesare repeatedly exposed to the risk of broken family ties and insecure attachment styles due totheir different behavior, the process of rehabilitation and their parents’ experiences.
