Business Relations vs. Social Ties – the Case of Cooperation among Tourism Businesses in Wisła, Poland

Abstract

The paper undertakes to epitomize interactions between social ties and formal business relationships, as well as their influence on entrepreneurs’ cooperative behaviors in popular tourist areas. Relations among private businesses operating in the municipality of Wisła, Poland, are used as an example. The paper is composed of five parts. The first provides an introduction to the ensuing discussion of the central point. The second part presents Mark Granovetter’s concept of social embeddedness, pointing out its applicability to investigating the links between social and economic relations found at tourist destinations. The subsequent part describes the research methodology applied, while part four reports the research findings, and is followed by conclusions and recommendations for future research and business practice.
