Abstract
A autora escolhe três documentos: a Carta de Pero Vaz de Caminha(1500) sobre o “achamento” do Brasil, o quadro A Primeira Missa no Brasil (1860),de Victor Meirelles de Lima e o filme O Descobrimento do Brasil(1937) de Humberto Mauro. Elamostra como esses documentos se entrelaçam na construção da memória nacional e do mito fundador do Brasil. Para analisar essa relação a autora escolhe a narrativa da primeira missa e a exaltação da cruz presente na carta, na pintura e no filme.
